Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver Named Chairman of the House Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Overview Committee (MARTOC)

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) as the Chairman of the House Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Overview Committee (MARTOC). Rep. Oliver will also serve as a member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources, Special Committee on Access to the Civil Justice System, as well as the Governmental Affairs, Juvenile Justice, Judiciary and Science and Technology committees.

“The economic history of Georgia is about transportation— first rivers, then railroads, airports and interstates,” said Rep. Oliver. “Our future will be tied to transit for more of our state, and I am happy to be part of the discussion.”

MARTOC is a statutory committee which provides oversight of the budget for MARTA. As a joint committee with the House and Senate, MARTOC does not handle legislation nor do the members have a vote on the MARTA Board of Directors.

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
