Rep. Sharon Cooper Named to “Who’s Who at the Gold Dome” List

ATLANTA – State Representative Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta), chair of the House Health and Human Services Committee, was recently named in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s (AJC) “Who’s Who at the Gold Dome” for the 2021 legislative session.

“I am honored to have been recognized by such a widely respected publication like the AJC,” said Rep. Cooper. “As the chair of the House Health and Human Services Committee, it is a privilege to work alongside health care experts to craft legislative solutions to address extremely important issues that Georgians all across our state may face. The threat of COVID-19 continues to grow in our state, but I am determined to continue to use my position to help shepherd prudent health care policies that will help us fight back the virus this year and keep Georgians healthy and safe.”

As the chairman of the House Health and Human Services Committee, Rep. Cooper’s recent work has focused on addressing Georgia’s high maternal mortality rates. During the 2020 legislative session, Rep. Cooper championed House Bill 1114, legislation which authorizes the state to extend the duration of postpartum Medicaid coverage for new mothers from two months to six months. Rep. Cooper also co-chaired the House Study Committee on Maternal Mortality in 2019.

Other notable mentions in the AJC “Who’s Who at the Gold Dome” list include Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), Speaker Pro-Tempore Jan Jones (R-Milton), as well as State Representatives Terry England (R-Auburn), Calvin Smyre (D-Columbus) and Richard Smith (R-Columbus).

Representative Sharon Cooper represents the citizens of District 43, which includes portions of Cobb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 1996 and currently serves as Chairman of the Health & Human Services Committee. She also serves on the Judiciary Non-Civil, Regulated Industries and Rules committees.
