Rep. Lewis-Ward to Host Women in Agriculture Virtual Day at the Capitol Today

ATLANTA – State Representative Regina Lewis-Ward (D-McDonough), along with State Representatives Darlene Taylor (R-Thomasville) and Debbie Buckner (D-Junction City), will host the Women in Agriculture Virtual Day at the Capitol on TODAY, Monday, March 22, 2021, at 4 p.m. via Zoom. This virtual event will feature female members of the House Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee; Misty Friedman, director of Farm to School and Nutrition at the Georgia Department of Agriculture; Jasann Lovey Gilliam, Gilliam Community Gardens; and Eva Dickerson, fellowship recipient for the Luce Scholars Program at the Henry Luce Foundation and food justice strategist. This event will kick off Georgia Agriculture Week and is a part of National Agriculture Week, and this year’s event will highlight farm-to-market access for sufficient, nutritious foods.

“According to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), women represent 43 percent of the world’s agricultural labor force, and they produce more than half of the world’s food, despite being less than half of the labor force,” said Rep. Lewis-Ward. “Women have made significant contributions in agriculture, and this event will provide legislative updates and an opportunity to dicsuss the importance of farm-to-market access for nutritious meals to live healthy lives.”
